Things my Mom was Right About

So Mother’s Day is this Sunday. I have a little something for mother, who is extremely difficult to buy gifts for, and obviously we’ll be doing nice things for her on Sunday, probably involving food and flowers. But perhaps my greatest gift to her will be admitting that perhaps, over the course of my life, there have been a handful of times she was right about stuff.

Things My Mom was Right About:

1. Your face really will stick that way.

2. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

3. I wasn’t dying of flesh-eating bacteria.

4. My childhood dalliance with dark lipliner and light lipstick is best not spoken of.

5. Dish soap removes most stains from clothing.

6. I wasn’t dying of botulism.

7. Not enough real food makes me terrible to be around.

8. Clean as you go.

9. It wasn’t a tumor.

10. Abercrombie & Fitch is a terrible company and they’re best avoided.

11. Clean out your car while you’re waiting for the tank to fill at the gas station.

12. I wasn’t dying of Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Things I’m Thankful For

Happy Thanksgiving er’body!

#TBT. Hint: this is nowhere near California.

#TBT to one of the only autumnal pictures I have. Hint: this is nowhere near California.

I hope you all have a day filled with great food, more wine (and champagne) than that wedding that Jesus went to, and no (lasting) family drama.

My Thanksgiving motto? If at the end you’re not contemplating bulimia, you’re doing it wrong.

A few of the many things I’m grateful for this year:

. . . family that puts up with their 22 year-old daughter who has not always taken well to living at home once again.

. . . friends who know exactly what I’m thinking when I give them a single look as we’re being cornered in a bar by random people from high school that we don’t want to talk to.

. . . my kitty cat and my total airhead of a dog.

. . . my striped shirt from Zara that I’ve been wearing constantly because it might be the most perfect cold-weather shirt in the history of the world.

. . . my secret boyfriend.

And a lot of other things.

I’ve got it pretty good.

The Little Things

So far today I have managed to get a ticket, sit in horrendous traffic, spill one cup of coffee on my shirt and ruin another, and get whacked on the nose with the windshield visor of my car. All by 9 am. Happy Friday.
But I am looking on the bright side and thinking about all the little things that have made me happy this week, including a weekend getaway to celebrate my friend’s birthday.

The Little Things

For all the sarcasm and mockery that constantly leave my mouth, I’m actually a very optimistic person. I think it’s important to acknowledge the little things that make us happy from day to day, inspire us, or elevate our life in some way – so here are a few of the things making me happy right meow.
